    Default Bomb!! Its coming, soon!!!

I have been slaving over a hot soldering iron tonight, the computer, LCD (had to get a new one which is why there is a delay) and buttons are connected & working.

    So, here is a teaser!!

I still need to add a LED or two, just have to get out to get the correct resistors, and the pezo siren, though that can come later as 95 db is too loud to have accidently go off inside..

The 4 buttons work the menu system & the code input. Currently it does very little but scroll through some options, I am still working on that.

More updates will come as I advance the softare and have flashy lights & have it mounted in the case..

Just a little photo update, have tidied the wiring, added the siren and a ultra bright RED led..

The LED will be mounted above the LCD so when it flashes it will be a bit annoying!!

Software currently has a menu system, which is working, one of which is a test menu which currently lights up the LED or makes a loud noise..

Need to now work on mounting it in the box, so I need to dig out some plastic sheet (anyone want to donate some), cut it to shape and make cutouts for the LCD, LED and Buttons..

    An update - I have been spending some time on the software to run on this, and last night had it counting down and allowing entry of 2 of the 3 code types to stop the timer, also gives a good message about failure.. I keep seeing red blurs with the flashing of the ultra bright red led (just as well i have left off the mega bright white ones, they really cause retina burn..) :;

nzsmurf is looking for a bit of Perspex to mount the lcd and stuff on which he will cut to fit in the case, should provide good protection..

not too bad, got a coping saw, drilling the holes was another matter, i have some really shite drill bits..

Now, as I suspected the siren is dulled when sealed up inside the case so I have to probably drill a hole for the sound to come out.. mmm.....

It would be good if it is water resistent , as I dont want some turnip dropping it in the creeks.

I know, its a trade off between water resistance and the reduction in volume of the siren by about 2 thirds.. putting a noise maker in a sealed box is not ideal for making the sound waves come out - at the moment I have popped out one of the end windows.. (makes a big hole but is real loud)..

We are not using that, have mounted a 4mm perspex plate in that location, that way if any stray BB gets past, nothing is ruined, that and the buttons would not be held securley enough, its pretty solid.. I needed to make sure that nothing other than a cheap push button can be ruined if it gets shot..

I was going to look and see if some of that plastic (or some other) can be used over one of the end holes..

Another option is to mount the pezo on the outside with a small wire hole that can be sealed, only thing is i dont think it will take a BB hit..

We had the bomb out on sunday afternoon, went ok, except for a hardware fault where for some reason when the siren went off (even just to beep) the LCD blanked out, everything was working in the background.

I have done the diagnosis, the circuit board was a bit stressed as one of my mounting holes was not quite in the right place and I had a couple of poor joints which were made worse by the stree...

So, its now fixed up and keeps working properly.. I have just left the screw out of that hole for now, the board is well supported on the 3.

Will need to make sure we have a 9 v battery, as it will fit better & might need to fit a small on/off switch on the power lead..

With this "Bomb" whats the output voltage/amperage on the siren? Any way it could be upped?

Where i work we make training equipment for a military contractor (Cubic Defence/OSCMAR) and i've got a small stash of the little smoke/flares they use on the LAV's to simulate a "Hit" they're detonated by an electric current..

They class as a standard "Flare" cartridge too so no licence required

the drive output is 1amp (i think it can handle 3 amp spike) at the input (battery) voltage (which is upto 15v), a relay or fet could be added (I was driving a ab-long mosfet off the computer board)..

I also have access to the new sw-lion computer mosfet board which could be configured to add a LCD & buttons, the mosfets on that are approx 430 amp at 16v..

The flash-flares and smokers detonate a 5 amps and 2 amps respectively, 12v on both..

Hmm May be in touch just need to see if i can get a ready supply of refillable smoke flares
